KBYU will continue analog broadcast until June 12

As you may have heard, Congress has passed a bill delaying the date of the digital television (DTV) transition to June 12, 2009. While the Act preserves the right of stations to turn off their analog signals earlier, KBYU, like other broadcasters in Utah, will leave its analog signal on until June 12.

As public broadcasters, our primary mission is to serve the public, in this case by giving viewers more time to make the transition to digital. This means that you will still be able to watch public television (channels 11, 9 and 7) until June 12 if you have not already made the switch.

KBYU is broadcasting in digital now. As soon as you make the switch to digital you can watch all our channels with digital-quality picture and sound including KBYU Eleven, KBYU HD, and CREATE. You will also receive two Brigham Young University channels, BYU Television and BYU Television International which feature performances, sports, documentaries, conferences, and other programs from the university.

Applying and Re-Applying for Converter Box Coupons

The Federal Government is offering each household two free $40 coupons that can be used at retailers to purchase converter boxes. Only one coupon can be used per converter box.

After the program ran out of money in early February, a new law was passed to extend the convertor box coupon program until July 31, 2009.  The new law requires the government, upon request, to provide replacement coupons for coupons that have expired without being redeemed.  Coupons will still expire after 90 days and if the program funds run out before July 31st, no more will be added.

To find out more about how to apply or re-apply for coupons, visit www.dtv2009.gov or call 1-888-DTV-2009.  Here at KBYU, we would also like to help.  Call us at 1-800-298-5298 and we will.

KBYU has a high-definition broadcast. View the complete HD listings.
